What location is used for
- Mileage: GPS when you log a mileage trip (for HMRC-style records).
- Live clock-in tracking (Gold): If a worker enables live location for a shift, Vanly may collect GPS while they are clocked in, including in the background, so the business can verify on-site presence. Tracking stops when they clock out or turn the feature off.
Location access is optional. You can refuse or revoke it in your device settings at any time. See our Privacy Policy.
How live clock-in tracking works
- Open Vanly and go to Clock In / time tracking on your dashboard or Time Clock.
- Before Android asks for permission, Vanly shows a short in-app explanation that live tracking needs location — including in the background — while your shift is active.
- If you continue, Android shows the system permission prompts. For background tracking choose Allow all the time (wording may vary by Android version).
- While clocked in with live tracking on, you may see a notification such as “Tracking your location while clocked in”.
- Tap Clock Out (or turn tracking off) to stop background location for that session.
Your controls
- Decline location and still use most of Vanly without live tracking or GPS mileage.
- Change or revoke location permission anytime in Android Settings → Apps → Vanly → Permissions → Location.
- Clock out to end a live tracking session immediately.

For Google Play’s background-location review, Google requires a short YouTube walkthrough of this flow (unlisted is fine) — a page like this helps users, but does not replace that YouTube link in Play Console.
