1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. We also use similar technologies such as localStorage and service workers to make Vanly work reliably.
2. How We Use Cookies
Vanly uses cookies and local storage for two purposes:
- Essential (strictly necessary) — required for the app to function. These do not require consent under UK PECR.
- Optional (analytics & notifications) — used to improve your experience. We only enable these if you choose "Accept all" in our consent banner.
3. Essential Cookies & Storage
These are required for Vanly to work and cannot be disabled:
| Name / Technology | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
firebase:authUser |
Keeps you signed in via Firebase Authentication | Session / persistent |
firebaseLocalStorage |
Stores authentication tokens securely in the browser | Persistent |
vanly_cookie_consent |
Remembers your cookie preference so we don't ask again | Persistent |
| Flutter service worker | Caches app assets for faster loading and offline access | Until cleared |
4. Optional Cookies & Services
These are only activated if you click "Accept all" in the cookie banner:
| Name / Technology | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Firebase Cloud Messaging service worker | Enables push notifications (job updates, reminders) | Until unregistered |
| Firebase Analytics | Anonymous usage data to help us improve features (if enabled in future) | Up to 2 years |
5. Third-Party Cookies
Some third-party services used by Vanly may set their own cookies:
- Stripe — sets cookies during the checkout process for fraud prevention and payment security. See Stripe's Cookie Policy.
- Google Fonts — may set cookies when loading the Inter typeface. See Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Managing Your Preferences
You can change your cookie choice at any time:
- In-app: Clear your browser's local storage for getvanley.co.uk — the consent banner will reappear on your next visit.
- Browser settings: Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent you from signing in.
7. UK PECR & GDPR
We comply with the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). Essential cookies are set under the "strictly necessary" exemption. All other cookies require your explicit consent.
8. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy when we add new features or services. The "Last updated" date below will change accordingly.
